Insurance and protection
Every car we rent is insured, but cover always has conditions. This page explains what is included, what you can add, and what is not covered, so you can choose the protection that suits you.
Included in every rental
- Third-party liability insurance for injury to other people and damage to their property, up to the legal limits in Florida.
- Collision damage waiver (CDW) for damage to our vehicle, subject to an excess (deductible). The excess depends on the vehicle class: typically $500 for economy cars, $1,000 for SUVs and vans, and $2,500 for luxury and sports cars.
- Theft protection with the same excess, provided the keys are returned and the car was locked.
- 24/7 roadside assistance for breakdowns, flat batteries, lock-outs and towing after an accident.
Optional protection packages
| Package | What it adds | Typical price |
|---|---|---|
| Standard Plus | Reduces your excess by 50% | $12 per day |
| Premium | Reduces your excess to $0, and covers tyres, glass, roof and underbody | $22 per day |
| Personal accident | Medical and accidental death cover for the driver and passengers | $6 per day |
| Roadside Assistance+ | Replacement vehicle in under two hours, plus fuel delivery and key replacement | $350 per rental |
Packages can be added when you book online (look for Insurance Packages and Roadside Assistance in the add-ons) or at the branch.
What is not covered
- Damage caused by driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, racing, or off-road driving.
- Use by anyone who is not named in the rental agreement.
- Keys left in the vehicle, or the vehicle left unlocked.
- Interior damage, burns, stains, and loss of personal belongings.
- Refuelling with the wrong fuel, or driving with a warning light on.
- Fines, tolls and parking charges (these remain your responsibility).
- Damage you did not report within 24 hours.
If you have an accident
- Stop, switch on the hazard lights and make sure everyone is safe. Call 911 if anyone is hurt.
- Do not move the vehicle unless it is blocking traffic, and do not admit fault.
- Take photos of the vehicles, the road, registration plates and any damage.
- Exchange names, phone numbers and insurance details with the other driver, and note witnesses.
- Call our assistance number on your agreement. We will arrange towing and a replacement vehicle.
- Get a police report number for accidents involving others, or any theft or vandalism.
Using your own insurance
Some personal car insurance policies and premium credit cards cover rental cars. If you want to rely on them, bring written proof of cover and check that it applies in Florida, to our vehicle class and for the length of your rental. A larger deposit may be required.
