10 Interview Preparation Tips That Actually Work
18 October 2026
A good interview is rarely about luck. The candidates who stand out are the ones who prepared deliberately, and preparation is a skill you can learn in an evening.
1. Research the company beyond the homepage
Read recent news, the careers page and the team's public posts. Come with one genuine observation and one question that shows you thought about the role.
2. Rehearse your story, not a script
Write down three achievements with numbers: what the problem was, what you did and what changed. Practise saying them aloud until they feel natural, not memorised.
3. Use the STAR method for behavioural questions
Situation, Task, Action, Result. Keep the situation short and spend most of your time on the action and the result.
4. Prepare questions for them
Ask about how success is measured in the first 90 days, how the team makes decisions and what the hardest part of the job is. Interviews go both ways.
5. Test your setup
For video interviews, check your camera, microphone and connection ten minutes early. Keep a glass of water nearby and close unnecessary tabs.
Finish with a short thank-you note the same day. It takes two minutes and is remembered more often than you would expect.
